NANAIMO DIAMONDS - MIDGET B GIRLS - KELOWNA SPRING SIZZLE TOURNEY

Kelowna Spring Sizzle Tournament was impressed by the Nanaimo Diamonds this past weekend as the girls finished first overall in there pool of 13.  With 26 teams in the tournament, Nanaimo got a bye into the first playoff round which obviously rested the girls to a mercy against Ridge Meadow Rage 11 - 3. Bassett was the winning pitcher.  Next the Kelowna Heat (who mercied all four teams in round robin play) had an eye opener as the Nanaimo squad took the win in 6 innings 9 - 3. Vicky Ripley was on the mound.  This brought the Diamonds to the finals but due to lack of daylight and an overload of teams a coin toss was how the Diamonds won the gold.  Alberta Elite received the silver.  The girls had a very strong weekend at the plate with Kirsten Bassett having the teams highest average of 636 with Alicia Stone right behind her with a 500 average.  Almost all the girls are batting over 400 which is why the Diamonds are having a very successful season.  After 3 tournaments the girls have won two golds and a silver.   The icebreaker at Softball City the girls won 4 and lost 1.  Roberge says they all bring something with them to the park and each player is an asset, she hopes they keep getting better and stronger as the season moves along.  "Even with every loss the girls get something positive out of it." She says....."there's alot to be learnt in a loss."

PEE WEE DIAMONDS WIN MAINLAND TOURNAMENT

The Pee Wee Diamonds played their first tournament of the year in South Surrey on May 1 and 2, 2010.  The Diamonds had a slow start losing to Peninsula Power 97 and Kelowna Heat 96 in the first 2 games.  The Diamonds didn’t let up and were victorious over the Vancouver Wildcats and the Surrey Storm 96.  Both games were over due to the mercy rule.  The Diamonds advanced to the play-off round seeded in 2nd place and met the Wildcats again.  The result was the same as the Diamonds defeated the Wildcats by a 13-2 score to move into the final game against the South Delta Invaders 96/97 squad.  The Invaders knocked off the Kelowna Heat in play-off action by a 7 run margin.    Powerful hitting all through the Diamonds line-up and flawless defence pushed the Diamonds to the top of the podium.  The final score was 9-0 for the Diamonds.
