SOFTBALL FOR BOYS & GIRLS
Getting Ready To Play requires planning. What does your child play in the spring and summer. Consider joining the Nanaimo and District Minor Fastball Association in 2012 for a great activity and a chance to meet new friends.
Over 1000 boys and girls in Nanaimo and area play organized softball. The Nanaimo and District Minor Fastball Association offers organized softball for every child from ages 4-18 years old. Currently the Nanaimo and District Minor Fastball Association is the largest league on the central island with over 600 participants drawing players from all over Nanaimo. In addition to the Nanaimo based teams, the NDMFA house league schedule includes teams from Parksville, Ladysmith and Chemainus. The NDMFA house league featured more than 60 teams last year in a season that wrapped up in June. Close to 800 players participated in the NDMFA Year End Tournament. Every child received a medal to go along with a free hot dog and pop; winning wasn’t the goal. Playing and having fun is the most important goal for the NDMFA players.
It doesn’t matter where you live in Nanaimo, you are welcome to register in the NDMFA. League play begins in mid April and wraps up coinciding with the end of the School year. In order to have another successful season players are encouraged to register early. To ensure placement on a team register by March 14.
If you are tired of playing the same team over and over again then it’s time to make a change. All the local minor softball associations, except for one, have merged with the NDMFA and because of this we are able to continue to offer softball to all the boys and girls in Nanaimo.
In 2011, the NDMFA hosted pitching clinics, coaching clinics, hosted 6 tournaments, and were the host of the Midget B Provincial Championships in addition to running a softball skills camp during the Christmas Break. We hosted District Championships and we sent our boys and girls teams to the Provincial Championships. We continued to grow the sport and community support.
Registration forms are available on our website . If you register early you can get an Early Registration Bonus! Mail completed registration forms to Box 264 Station “A” Nanaimo BC, V9R 5K9.
The NDMFA also has a benefit program to help offset registration costs for families with 3 or more players in addition to the assistance we provide to ensure everyone who wants to play, can play. |

Free Softball Skills Camps
On Saturday January 7, the NDMFA will begin offering free softball skills camps to all players wanting to build on their softball skills. The focus of these camps will be to introduce pitching skills to every player who wants to pitch.
Pitching is essential to the game and if introduced at an early stage in a players development the player and their teams will enjoy the game a whole lot more.
All you need is a glove and suitable clothing. The camps will be in the Centennial Building and will go every Saturday morning until the end of March.
Ideally every team should have 4 or more pitchers and the NDMFA has decided that we will begin by offering players the opportunity to learn windmill pitching.
If you are a coach or want to coach softball in 2012 then you are also invited to learn how to pitch.
Times are 9:00-10:00 a.m. for players born in 2000-2003 and 10:00-11:00 for players born 1996-1999. Coaches can come at either of the two times. |
