SOFTBALL SEASON RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER
The crack of the bat, the screams of joy, the parents yelling and the kids all with smiles. Yes! Softball season is right around the corner. Local leagues are now gearing up for another Softball Season!!
Over 800 boys and girls in Nanaimo and area play organized softball. There are two associations in Nanaimo and they offer an organized sport for every child from ages 4-18 years old. Currently the Nanaimo and District Minor Fastball Association is the largest league on the Central Island with over 600 participants drawing players from all over Nanaimo. In addition to the Nanaimo based teams there were teams from Parksville, Ladysmith and Chemainus. The NDMFA fielded almost 50 teams last year that wrapped up in June with 600 players at the year end wrap up tournament. Every child received a medal to go along with a free hot dog and pop; winning wasn’t the goal. Playing and having fun was and continues to be the mantra for the NDMFA.
League play begins in mid April and wraps up coinciding with the end of the School year. In order to ensure another successful season, registration happens now and runs until teams are selected at the beginning of April. Registration forms are available on the website or in person at Reaction Sports on Bowen Road. |

NDMFA History
Nanaimo District Minor Fastball Association has been in existence, in some form, since the mid 1950's. We have a long record of association with Softball B.C. and a track record of successfully hosting numerous tournaments locally that over the years has brought in thousands of players from around our province. We have hosted Provincial Championships annually for the past 10 years as well as intermittently previous to that. Twice, we have successfully been the venue coordinators for Softball at the B.C. Summer Games. Nanaimo District Minor Fastball Association continually registers over 1000 of Nanaimo's youth every year. We organize all aspects of the game; we coordinate scheduling, field use, tournaments, umpiring for both the recreational and competitive players. Our organization focuses on endorsing the game of softball by promoting fair play and teamwork.
